Channing Tatum might be a family man with joint custody of his daughter, Everly, but that doesn’t mean that Jessie J was ready for the same level of commitment. When the British pop star split from the Hollywood actor at the end of 2019, a source reportedly told In Touch, “Jessie is free-spirited and doesn’t want to be tied down.” Meanwhile, since his breakup from ex-wife Jenna Dewan, reports have repeatedly suggested that Tatum is ready to settle down again. A source told In Touch in January 2020, “Channing wants lasting love, he’d love to settle down, get married again and have more children.” Meanwhile, the same source said, “Jessie wants the same, she’d love to find Mr. Right,” so perhaps the couple’s ideas of settling down just didn’t align.
In September 2019, People reported that Jessie J had written a new song about Tatum, which she performed during a show in Los Angeles. According to the publication, the lyrics revealed, “Take it slow, baby steps so we don’t know … Let’s be still, just stay calm, so we’re not rushing what we are.” The song continued, “Pressure on, just have fun. It’s not a race, no need to run.” Finally, the crooner sang, “If it’s forever, let’s just simply be in love.” In many ways, the lyrics suggest that the artist wasn’t in a hurry to settle down, and simply wanted to take the relationship one day at a time.
