Ahead of Season 8’s premiere, it was announced SUR and TomTom staff members Brett Caprioni, Charli Burnett, Danica Dow, Dayna Kathan, and Max Boyens had joined the Vanderpump Rules cast. These additions have sparked some questions about the series’ direction, as Stassi Schroeder explained during her interview with In The Know, “Even while we were filming, we were like, ‘What’s going on?’ It felt like we were filming two shows at once sometimes, but all we could really focus on was just doing what we normally do.” She added, “I don’t know what the future is for Vanderpump Rules. We all wonder about it, but it’s definitely different. There are a lot of us who are a little freaked out, like, ‘What the f**k is going on?'”
It seems Schroeder isn’t the only person who feels this way — in fact, BuzzFeed writer Zan Romanoff wrote an entire piece analyzing why VPR is over. “Reality television isn’t about happy endings,” Romanoff wrote about the cast members getting married and securing successful ventures. “The whole point of the format is that it is endless, ongoing, generating intricate conflict as reliably as any mid-afternoon soap opera. So what happens when a cast starts to outgrow the roles they’ve been playing so successfully for so long?”
The answer to Romanoff’s question remains to be seen, but we’re not too hopeful about the show’s future.
