Tragically, two individuals lost their lives, and Alhaji Bashir Abara Gummi, the Zamfara State Coordinator of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), along with numerous others, was taken hostage by armed bandits on the Funtua-Gusau Road.
The incident occurred on Sunday, October 20, 2024, when the bandits obstructed the busy roadway and targeted multiple vehicles, including the one carrying Gummi.
Sources reveal that the coordinator was en route to Abuja for an official duty when the violent ambush took place.
According to a security official familiar with the situation, the bandits discharged firearms at passing cars, resulting in the deaths of two individuals instantly, before seizing the coordinator and many other travelers.
“The bandits set up a blockade, and sadly, several vehicles became victims. They opened fire indiscriminately and abducted a number of travelers,” the source informed Daily Trust.
In a fortunate turn of events, Auditor General Alhaji Abubakar Dan Maliki escaped the assault, skillfully maneuvering away from the attack scene.
His escape occurred shortly after he arrived at the site, witnessing the chaos as other vehicles were halted by the bandits. Upon realizing the danger, he quickly executed a U-turn to avoid the ambush.
