Arsenal Gains Momentum as Chelsea Withdraws from Winger Deal

Arsenal handed huge boost as Chelsea back out of contention to sign star winger image

Arsenal is gearing up for a significant summer transfer window, aiming to enhance their squad for the upcoming season. Coach Mikel Arteta has expressed an urgent need for forward options.

As such, the club is keeping an eye on both a winger and an accomplished striker as they navigate the transfer market.

Recently, they have set their sights on Real Madrid’s Rodrygo Goes. The Brazilian player is a key target for Arsenal this summer, particularly with the speculation around his potential departure from the club.

A few days ago, Real Madrid placed an €80 million (£67.5m) valuation on the 24-year-old, who reportedly feels unsettled. Some sources indicate that Rodrygo does not feel sufficiently valued following the arrival of Kylian Mbappe.

Additionally, he seems to sense that his standing within the team has diminished, overshadowed by Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, and Vinicius Jr.

Besides Arsenal, Chelsea had also shown interest in the Brazilian winger and were assessing his situation closely.

However, recent updates from Football Insider reveal that Chelsea has decided to withdraw from the race, shifting their attention to pursuing a traditional number 9.

What are Rodrygo’s options this summer?

Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has confirmed Arsenal’s keen interest in the Brazilian, indicating that discussions for his potential acquisition have already begun.

Nevertheless, according to reports from Real Madrid Confidencial, Rodrygo is likely to wait for the official appointment of Xabi Alonso before making any major career choices.

He is reportedly still eager to compete for a starting position at Madrid, but if Alonso indicates that he’s not in future plans, Rodrygo will consider a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu.

Recently, when Arteta was questioned about the Rodrygo rumors, he remained discreet, only mentioning that they require players who can contribute goals and creativity.

“While I won’t mention any specific names, we’ve positioned the club to aim for a major trophy next season,” Arteta stated to the press ahead of the Southampton match.

“It’s crucial that we introduce more goals and creativity, and that means strengthening different positions.”

If Rodrygo decides to join Arsenal, he could prove to be a valuable asset. The versatile 24-year-old can excel across the attack, showcasing impressive dribbling skills and ball control. With numerous accolades from his time at Madrid, he’s proven himself in high-stakes games.
