Barcelona’s Shift: La Masia Star Now Open to Offers

Barcelona take U-turn with La Masia graduate, open to hearing offers image

This summer, Barcelona has been relatively quiet in the transfer market. So far, they have secured Joan Garcia from Espanyol and are in pursuit of Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao.

Recent reports indicate that Barcelona’s pursuit of Williams has hit a snag, as his representative seeks assurances about the club’s capacity to register him for the 2025/26 season.

As a result, Barcelona has started to reconsider their position regarding La Masia talent Fermin Lopez; they are now open to offers for the promising midfielder, according to SPORT.

Previously, when Bayern Munich expressed interest in the young player, Barcelona rejected all inquiries, unwilling to let him leave Camp Nou.

Fermin recently signed a long-term agreement with Barcelona that binds him to the club until 2029. Yet, his playing time appears uncertain as the team features other midfielders like Pedri, Frenkie De Jong, Dani Olmo, and possibly Raphinha in key positions.

Despite Hansi Flick’s admiration for Fermin, Barcelona’s midfield is crowded, and signing an additional midfielder could further limit Fermin’s minutes.

What Factors Could Lead to Fermin Lopez’s Departure from Barcelona This Summer?

While Fermin desires to remain at Camp Nou this summer, Barcelona’s salary constraints may push them toward selling the Spanish international.

If they successfully acquire Williams, they might need to make financial adjustments, potentially resulting in Fermin being the one who is sold.

Additionally, with Williams’ potential arrival, Raphinha could transition into a more central position—a spot favored by the 22-year-old midfielder. This change could lead to Fermin receiving less playing time in the forthcoming season.

Fermin made a significant impact in helping Barcelona secure the domestic treble last season, contributing six goals and five assists across 26 La Liga matches.

Flick appreciates Fermin’s versatility and technical abilities, which are valuable to the squad.
