Barcelona’s Urgent Search After Nico Williams Rejection

Serie A giants add Liverpool star to two-man transfer shortlist image

Barcelona faced a significant setback when their main target, Nico Williams, opted to extend his contract with Athletic Bilbao for another decade.

The young forward was initially enthusiastic about joining Barcelona to reunite with his national teammates Lamine Yamal, Pedri, and Alejandro Balde at Camp Nou.

However, complications arose when his agent requested a guarantee of registration from the Catalan club. Frustrated by the slow progress, Williams opted to commit to his current team.

This leaves Barcelona with few viable options in the transfer market, compelling them to search for alternatives. They are expected to identify a replacement soon.

Barcelona has previously begun discussions with Liverpool winger Luis Diaz, yet they might also contemplate Marcus Rashford, who has fallen out of favor at Manchester United, as another option.

According to sources from SPORT, these two players are currently under consideration by the club’s management, with sporting director Deco favoring Diaz.

Deco is said to have preferred Diaz over Williams; however, securing a transfer will be challenging for Barcelona, especially given Liverpool’s current position regarding Diaz and the recent injury to Diogo Jota.

Previously, Liverpool rejected multiple bids from Bayern Munich for the Colombian, and they are not in a position to negotiate transfers at this time.

The attention now turns to Rashford, who has been instructed to seek a new club following his return to Manchester. The English forward is keen on a move to Camp Nou, with even Hansi Flick holding him in high regard.

There are additional options in the market, such as Malick Fofana, who is likely to leave Olympique Lyon this summer. Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman could also be a strong candidate due to his versatility and scoring ability.

Rashford’s affordable fee makes him an appealing choice for Barcelona

Currently, Rashford appears to be the most promising option for the Catalan club. He displayed promising form during his short loan period at Aston Villa and wishes to replicate that success at Barcelona if the opportunity arises.

Reports indicate that he has sent his brother to Barcelona to express his desire to wear the Blaugrana colors.

Manchester United is also eager to sell the 27-year-old after he was stripped of the number 10 jersey, now given to new recruit Matheus Cunha.

The Red Devils have set an asking price of around €40 million for the English striker. Additionally, there is potential for a loan arrangement with an option to purchase.
