Bayern Munich has decided to exclude Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson from their list of potential successors to Manuel Neuer, whose contract expires at the end of the 2024/25 season.
Neuer’s impending free agency leaves Bayern in search of a replacement, as he has been a key player for the team for over 15 years.
Amid these developments, Alisson had previously indicated that he turned down a transfer to the Saudi Pro League, choosing instead to stay committed to Liverpool and its new direction under coach Arne Slot.
According to reports from Sky Sports Germany, referenced by ESPN, there remains a possibility for Neuer to extend his stay into the 2025/26 season.
Potential alternatives for Bayern include bringing back Artur Nubel from his loan at VfB Stuttgart to assume the No.1 spot, or targeting Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.
Following the international break, Alisson will be out until the end of October due to injury, while Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is expected to fill in.
With Alisson likely to remain at Liverpool, Kelleher may seek opportunities to play regularly elsewhere next summer, particularly as Giorgi Mamardashvili approaches a move from Valencia.
