Tottenham’s leader, Son Heung-min, is facing a significant decision in the near future.
The South Korean forward recently celebrated winning his first title with Tottenham, lifting the UEFA Europa League trophy in Bilbao last May, but his next move is uncertain.
Earlier this year, Tottenham triggered an extension in his contract, securing him until the close of the 2025/26 season to guard against a potential free transfer, especially amidst interest from the Saudi Pro League.
According to various reports, Son is considering two options: remaining with the club for another year under Thomas Frank’s management, or leaving if he is not guaranteed a consistent starting position.
Last season was marred by injuries, resulting in only seven goals in the Premier League, his lowest since joining the team in 2015/16.
Son will have some freedom in deciding his future due to his long tenure at the club, but Frank is keen to have a resolution before August begins.
Son turns down MLS proposal while weighing Tottenham options
The latest report from the Daily Mirror indicates that Son has declined an initial offer from Los Angeles FC in Major League Soccer, although the prospect remains appealing to him.
The 32-year-old desires to have complete certainty about his next steps and will keep Los Angeles as a consideration as he moves toward making a final choice by August.
Due to contractual obligations, Son must participate in several of Spurs’ preseason matches in Asia, which might hinder any quick transfer. Additionally, a move to the USA would necessitate a reduction in his current weekly salary of £200,000 [$275,000].
