Joao Felix believes that he can secure a spot in Enzo Maresca’s plans for Chelsea by the end of 2024.
The club re-signed the Portugal forward in August amid a lengthy negotiation with Atletico Madrid.
During his loan period at Chelsea in the latter part of the 2023/24 season, Felix scored four goals in the Premier League, prompting Chelsea to aim for a permanent transfer for the 24-year-old.
Eventually, a deal was reached with the Spanish club, where Felix transferred for a fee of £42 million (£55 million), while Conor Gallagher moved to Atletico as part of the agreement.
Nevertheless, his return to Chelsea has not taken off as expected, with only one goal in the current Premier League season and no starts, as Maresca explores other attacking options.
With Nicolas Jackson, Cole Palmer, and Noni Madueke performing well, Felix has found himself on the bench.
Maresca’s large squad makes it challenging to secure playing time, even with Chelsea participating in several competitions, but Felix remains optimistic about getting his chance.
“After I left Chelsea in 2023, I told my family and friends I would return to the Premier League,” he said, as quoted on Chelsea’s official website.
“We have numerous talented players here, and I consulted with Enzo before signing with the club. I was inspired by his vision for football and his style of play. I understand the competition will be fierce, but I’m committed to contributing to the team.”
“I believe it’s just a matter of time before I achieve my goals. I will put in the hard work while wearing this jersey and I’m confident I will soon be able to assist the team.”
Felix is anticipated to be included in the lineup for Chelsea’s UEFA Europa Conference League match against Panathinaikos tonight as Maresca adjusts his squad following the recent Premier League defeat to Liverpool.
