Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is awaiting updates on player injuries as his team returns from international matches next week.
The Blues concluded the November international break with a resolute 1-1 draw against Arsenal, elevating them to third place in the Premier League.
As they gear up for their game against Leicester City on November 23, Maresca will evaluate the condition of several important players.
Romeo Lavia had to leave the match against Arsenal in the 68th minute before joining the Belgium squad for two UEFA Nations League fixtures against Italy and Israel.
Prior to the match with Italy, Lavia felt capable of participating, but he was ultimately sidelined by head coach Domenico Tedesco.
Tedesco disclosed that the young 20-year-old was experiencing discomfort before their 1-0 defeat to Italy and is also expected to sit out the game against Israel on November 17.
“Romeo Lavia had a hamstring issue that was bothering him before the Italy match, so we chose not to risk it,” he stated.
“This isn’t about players trying to avoid games. They are genuinely injured. I’ve never faced a situation like this.”
Lavia is likely to return to London for further assessments on his injury while Maresca waits for updates before finalizing his lineup to play against Leicester.
In addition, Maresca will receive a positive note with Pedro Neto returning early from international duty, as he has been released from the Portugal team.
Roberto Martinez confirmed he opted to send back four players, including Neto, after ensuring Belgium’s qualification for the Nations League quarterfinals, as he intends to explore new options in the upcoming match against Croatia on November 18.
