Eberechi Eze’s Release Clause and Transfer Options Explored

Does Eberechi Eze have a release clause? Potential transfer options for Crystal Palace star image

Eberechi Eze has played a key role in leading Crystal Palace to the 2025 FA Cup final, where they aim to claim their first major trophy against Manchester City.

This season, the England midfielder has netted 13 goals across all competitions, marking the third consecutive year he has surpassed the ten-goal mark for the Eagles, while also providing 11 assists.

For the past couple of years, Eze has been linked with several prominent Premier League clubs, and he bolstered his standing with notable performances off the bench as England reached the Euro 2024 final.

Crystal Palace has successfully retained its star players, and with Adam Wharton and Marc Guehi prepared to join Eze in the showdown against City at Wembley, they have a solid chance to create a momentous chapter in their history.

Nevertheless, at 26 years old, Eze may feel it’s time to seek new challenges.

Is there a release clause for Eberechi Eze?

In June 2024, Mail Sport disclosed that Eze had a release clause amounting to £68 million ($90.3 million)—comprised of £60 million upfront and an additional £8 million in performance-related bonuses—secured by a contract extension he signed in November 2023.

This clause has lapsed without any club triggering it, but reports from Mail Sport indicate that it will be reinstated for the summer 2025 transfer window at the same valuation.

Is Eberechi Eze moving from Crystal Palace?

Manchester City, Crystal Palace’s upcoming opponents, have shown interest in Eze in the past, with Pep Guardiola a known fan of his talents. City’s need for homegrown players, coupled with Jack Grealish’s dwindling role at the Etihad, suggests a transfer could be plausible. However, new sporting director Hugo Viana is also prioritizing potential signings like Florian Wirtz, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Tijjani Reijnders. If even two of those players arrive, Eze might not fit into City’s midfield plans.

According to Football Insider, it appears Eze could choose from various top-tier clubs in the Premier League, although Manchester United and Tottenham would need to work on their attractiveness after poor domestic seasons leaving them just above the relegation zone.

Clearly, a player of Eze’s talent would enhance the roster for either side, and the same can be said for Arsenal, who have struggled with midfield creativity, especially with Martin Odegaard’s inconsistent form this season. Strengthening the left wing, where Eze excels, is also a target for Mikel Arteta.

Football London mentions Arsenal’s interest in Eze but notes concerns regarding the resale value of a player nearing 27 years old next month.

Although Chelsea has a wealth of attacking options, there are suggestions from journalist Simon Phillips that they are intrigued by the possibility of finalizing a transfer for a player they have admired for some time.

Lastly, Liverpool, the reigning champions, are looking to bolster their squad, specifically in the attacking midfield area. They are reportedly competing with City and Bayern Munich for Wirtz, and Caught Offside identifies them as a leading contender for Eze, alongside Arsenal.
