Endrick Breaks New Ground at Real Madrid with Record-Setting Debut as Mbappe Takes a Break

Real Madrid record-setting wonderkid earns first start leaving Mbappe on bench for Champions League match image

Real Madrid enthusiasts have been eagerly anticipating this moment – Endrick is set to begin a match for the team.

At just 18 years and 73 days old, the Brazilian sensation features in Carlo Ancelotti’s starting lineup for the Champions League clash against Lille this Wednesday. This achievement makes him the youngest player to start a Champions League match for Real Madrid, surpassing Raul’s long-held record from 1995.

Endrick’s debut in the starting XI came at the cost of the club’s renowned star. Newly acquired Kylian Mbappe was left out of the lineup, taking a break alongside teammate Rodrygo.

This is the second match this season where Mbappe has not started, having missed the recent Madrid derby due to a muscle issue. Before this, he participated in 783 minutes out of a potential 810 minutes for the team.

For Endrick, this represents a significant milestone in his Real Madrid journey. Although he has previously been on the pitch for only 50 minutes across eight games, all as a late substitute, he has still managed to net two goals and provide an assist, generating excitement among fans about his potentials.

He made his Champions League debut against Stuttgart two weeks ago, marking that appearance with a goal, and aims to deliver another impressive performance in Europe.

His fellow countryman Rodrygo, who is also a teammate on the international stage, has only seen action from the bench this season twice. His previous substitute appearance was against Las Palmas in La Liga, where he came in at halftime.
