During the match against Brighton & Hove Albion, Manchester United had a second goal disallowed for offside due to an unfortunate incident involving one of their new signings.
Danny Welbeck had scored first for Brighton at the Amex Stadium, but Amad Diallo managed to equalize for Manchester United in the second half.
Alejandro Garnacho, a substitute, appeared to have scored a goal putting United in the lead after converting a cross from Bruno Fernandes. However, a VAR check resulted in the goal being ruled out due to the involvement of Joshua Zirkzee, another recent signing.

Garnacho’s goal against Brighton was disallowed after a VAR review due to an offside call involving Zirkzee, who had also entered the game as a substitute in the second half.
During the play, Diallo and Fernandes executed a successful counter-attack, leading to Fernandes sending a low cross through the six-yard box from the right. Zirkzee attempted to reach the ball but missed, while Garnacho was ready to tap it in at the far post. Unfortunately, the ball hit Zirkzee’s knee on its way to the net, causing a disruption in Garnacho’s finish right at the goal line.
Due to this interference by Zirkzee before the ball crossed the line, the goal was rightly disallowed as Zirkzee was offside with the final touch. If the ball had not touched Zirkzee or had already completely crossed the goal line before the contact, Garnacho’s goal would have stood.
Adding to Manchester United’s disappointment, they conceded a late goal to Joao Pedro in the 95th minute, resulting in a 2-1 loss.
