In an unexpected development in his athletic journey, former football player Diego Forlan is set to make his professional tennis debut this November, at the age of 45.
The renowned ex-striker for Manchester United and Uruguay is swapping the football field for the tennis court as he readies himself to compete in the Uruguay Open.

Forlan, who previously showcased his football talents with clubs like Atletico Madrid and Villarreal, will join forces with Argentine tennis player Federico Coria in the men’s doubles category.
Taking place from November 11 in Montevideo, the Uruguay Open belongs to the ATP Challenger Tour. While it isn’t classified under the main ATP Tour, it still offers a competitive atmosphere, featuring Coria, who is currently ranked 101st in the world.
Following his retirement from football in 2018, Forlan rediscovered his passion for tennis, a sport he enjoyed during his youth. “I’m participating because of my love for tennis,” he mentioned in an interview. “It brings back the excitement I experienced on the football field.”
As a left-handed player with a strong baseline style, Forlan has engaged in senior tennis competitions and practices regularly at the Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club in Montevideo.
