Barcelona’s recent match against Celta Vigo ended in disappointment, with their troubles extending beyond just the last few minutes. Head coach Hansi Flick expressed strong dissatisfaction with his team’s overall performance.
The team had a solid lead of 2-0, thanks to goals from Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, both top scorers in the league. However, a red card issued to Marc Casado in the 82nd minute triggered a dramatic shift, allowing Celta Vigo to score twice within two minutes, resulting in a draw.
Following the match, Flick described the entire 90 minutes as a failure for the team. He commented, “It wasn’t just the last ten minutes that were problematic. The whole performance was not acceptable.” He expressed his frustration during the post-match conference, highlighting the numerous errors made by the players and the lack of ball control.
Flick further characterized the game as “very bad” and deemed their efforts as “awful,” not meeting Barcelona’s typical standards. Spanish journalist Helena Condis from Cope reported that Flick addressed the team after the match, showing his anger and emphasizing that there should be “no excuses.”
The coach criticized the team’s focus throughout the match, suggesting that they became overconfident with their lead. “It’s crucial to maintain concentration and not overlook the details,” Flick advised. “Sometimes players may underestimate the difficulty of winning.”
Several players surely felt disappointed with their contributions. While Casado’s second yellow card was pivotal, mistakes from Jules Kounde led to Celta Vigo’s first goal. Additionally, Fermin Lopez and Raphinha missed key opportunities to secure a win. Ultimately, Barcelona faced a significant challenge at the final whistle, being outshot by Celta Vigo, who recorded an impressive 2.60 xG from 15 attempts, with eight on target.
