Barcelona celebrated a commanding 2-0 victory against Espanyol on Thursday, securing their 28th La Liga title.
Lamine Yamal delivered a spectacular goal in the 58th minute, putting the visitors ahead, while substitute Fermin Lopez sealed the victory with a late goal, securing the title for Hansi Flick’s team.
This season has been remarkable for Barcelona, as they triumphed over archrivals Real Madrid twice, clinching both the Spanish Super Cup and the Copa del Rey. Now, they have completed the La Liga double over their closest title rivals.
It has truly been an outstanding season for the Spanish powerhouses and for Flick, who, in his debut season, has already amassed three trophies. They also fought valiantly in the Champions League semifinals.
Post-match, Yamal, a fan favorite, shared a succinct message after the title win. “Just the beginning,” said the 17-year-old star in a statement to ESPN.
“Winning La Liga with Barça is amazing, but this is merely the start of our ambitions. My message to supporters is that this is just the beginning. The thrill of winning is something I never tire of,” he elaborated.

This marks his second La Liga victory after participating in the 2022/23 season at only 15 years old. He turns 18 in July and has already achieved a commendable collection of accolades.
Yamal’s thoughts on comparisons to Barcelona legends
Yamal has been a standout player in Flick’s Barcelona this season, tallying 17 goals and providing 21 assists over 53 matches across all competitions.
Consistently stepping up, he’s being touted by fans as a potential Ballon d’Or candidate this year. Comparisons to past Barcelona legends like Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho, and Neymar have emerged, though the young talent remains undaunted.

“My goal is to create my own legacy,” he stated. “I want to be authentic, forge my own path, and become my own player.”
“I don’t focus on others. Naturally, I admire Messi’s success; he is, in my eyes, the greatest. But my aim is to carve out my own career.”
The 17-year-old also expressed gratitude towards former manager Xavi Hernandez during the La Liga celebrations, crediting him for giving Yamal his senior debut alongside La Masia defender Pau Cubarsi.
“We owe Xavi a huge thank you, as none of this would have been possible without him,” Yamal mentioned to Barça One.
“He has introduced countless young talents to the senior squad, and we appreciate him for that.”
In addition to being Barcelona’s 28th La Liga title, they have claimed 12 league titles in the 21st century, more than any other Spanish club. They trail only Bayern Munich’s 18 titles in Europe’s elite leagues.
