Liverpool Cuts Striker’s Price by £10M to Secure Exit

Arne Slot gives honest opinion on Liverpool

Liverpool is approaching a pivotal decision regarding striker Darwin Nunez.

Arne Slot aims to restructure his team in preparation for preseason training set for mid-July, having already secured Dutch international Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen.

With one signing finalized, the Reds’ management is now focused on acquiring Frimpong’s former teammate Florian Wirtz in what would be a record-breaking transfer, along with a keen interest in Bournemouth’s defender Milos Kerkez.

To facilitate these moves and maintain financial balance, Slot is required to offload players, with Nunez reportedly at the forefront of the exit plans.

Slot intends to finalize the Wirtz transfer before allowing Nunez to leave, but the club has communicated that selling Nunez is essential for any new signings.

Nunez won’t be the only player departing, as Harvey Elliott has shown interest in leaving, and Andy Robertson is being targeted by Atletico Madrid.

What is Darwin Nunez’s expected transfer fee?

Nunez remains Liverpool’s most expensive transfer after the club paid a record £72m to Benfica in 2022; however, this record is expected to be broken with Wirtz’s arrival.

At 25 years old and under contract until 2028, Nunez’s market value is still significant, despite scoring only five Premier League goals in the 2024/25 season.

Reports suggest Liverpool rebuffed an offer from Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal right before the FIFA Club World Cup deadline, alongside rejecting a £60m bid from Al Nassr in January.

Initially, there were uncertainties about a sale, but circumstances have shifted, and Slot is eager to part ways before August.

Though Nunez has expressed no desire to move to the Middle East, Liverpool may have to reduce their asking price from the previously mentioned £60m.

Only teams from the SPL are likely to meet that valuation, and with Benfica and Atletico Madrid not yet confirming their interest, reports from the Daily Mirror indicate that Liverpool might offer a price of £50m.

If negotiations stall, that figure could decrease further, with both AC Milan and Napoli ready to enter a potential bidding war.
