Paris Saint-Germain heads to the FIFA Club World Cup as a top contender for the newly revamped tournament.
Under the new format expanding the number of teams to 32, Luis Enrique’s squad stands to benefit significantly, facing Atletico Madrid, Botafogo, and the Seattle Sounders from MLS in Group B.
PSG arrives in California following a remarkable 2024/25 season, during which Enrique led the team to four prestigious titles at Parc des Princes.
This achievement set a new standard in French football, culminating in a historic 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League final, marking their first Champions League title.
This summer also marks PSG’s inaugural participation in the Club World Cup, where they are anticipated to progress far and contend with formidable opponents.
Enrique previously claimed the shorter tournament title with Barcelona in 2015, defeating River Plate 3-0 in the final, but his current team is inexperienced at this prestigious level.
Luis Enrique cautions PSG players about the Club World Cup challenge
While confidence surges within his team, Luis Enrique understands the importance of maintaining their performance and solidifying their status as a leading team.
The Club World Cup presents an opportunity for PSG to expand their trophy collection and showcase their talent globally, but the pragmatic coach is determined to keep the team’s intensity high.

“Football doesn’t guarantee fairness, and surprises can arise in short competitions like the Club World Cup. Keep in mind that once you hit the Round of 16, every result hinges on a single match—this holds true for the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final as well,” he stated in an interview with DAZN.
“The essence of football is surprises. Our aim remains the same in every competition: strive for victory. Our objective is straightforward: compete until the end, progress as far as possible, and create a chance to win.”
PSG’s debut in the Club World Cup kicks off with a match against Diego Simeone’s La Liga powerhouse on June 15 in Pasadena.
