When queried about his decision before the match, Ten Hag explained that he aimed to keep his squad rotated and fresh.
He stated, “Rotation is crucial as we have numerous matches ahead. We take into account the opponent and what is required for this game. A choice is made for every game,” according to Sky Sports.

He further mentioned that there is always pressure in matches, though he doesn’t feel it’s greater than in any other game. The matches against Porto, Tottenham, and Crystal Palace were all crucial, according to him.
Maguire made a significant impact by scoring an equalizer in Porto after coming on as a substitute; however, he has not started an EPL match since losing 2-1 to Brighton on August 24.
Meanwhile, Evans, at 36, has seen limited action this season, with just 12 minutes of playing time as a substitute in the top league in 2024/25.
