Manchester United has officially announced the signing of Diego León as their second acquisition of the summer. Ruben Amorim aims to strengthen multiple roles within the team while adhering to the INEOS strategy of integrating younger talent.

The 18-year-old player joins the squad from Cerro Porteño in Paraguay, where he made 33 appearances in senior matches.

According to a statement from United, “He is an emerging talent who will receive support from our first team and the Academy as he acclimatizes to life in Manchester.”

León has quickly captured the hearts of Manchester United supporters and holds high aspirations for his future.

León’s Impressions on Joining Manchester United

Before heading to Manchester, León shared his thoughts with the team and fans. His sentiments were captured by Matías Cuevas.

The Paraguayan stated, “Many believe I’ll be loaned out, but that’s not my mindset… I intend to excel in pre-season, and after one or two matches, I’ll be in the lineup.”

Following the announcement, León shared a collection of images on Instagram with a heartfelt message that read, “I vow to give my utmost each day, both in training and on the field.”

“Thank you to the club for believing in me and to my family for their unwavering support. I aim to bring immense joy to all Manchester United fans and everyone backing me on this journey. One more milestone achieved. From Paraguay to the world. Let’s go Red Devils!”

León’s registration is still pending, but his contract with United is finalized. The transfer fee is reported to be approximately £7m, which includes various performance-related add-ons.

He is looking forward to gaining valuable experience during the preseason, with Manchester United’s first friendly match scheduled against Leeds United on July 19. Additionally, he might participate in the Premier League Summer Series later in July.
