What decisions has Ruben Amorim made regarding his forwards?
According to reports from Corriere dello Sport, the club plans to part ways with Rasmus Højlund while opting to retain Joshua Zirkzee.
Højlund has attracted significant interest from Inter Milan, who aim to bolster their already powerful attack featuring Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram. Having previously competed in Serie A, Højlund netted 10 goals in one season with Atalanta.
His debut season with United was promising, as he achieved 15 goals and two assists across all competitions. However, his subsequent Premier League season saw a dip, with just four goals, although he performed well in the Europa League, scoring six times.
Amorim is pressing for more effective results from his forwards, but Højlund has struggled to maintain consistency.
In contrast, Zirkzee showed greater potential when fit. The Dutch forward began to deliver improved performances but faced a setback due to an unfortunate injury that kept him off the field.
While Zirkzee’s overall stats were modest—with six goals and two assists—he consistently posed a threat and brought a renewed energy to the team.
Both players are young with ample room for growth, but Zirkzee seems to be the preferred option for Amorim heading into his first complete season at the helm.
