Inter Miami, under the leadership of Lionel Messi, faced a disappointing exit from this year’s Club World Cup after a significant 4-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Round of 16.
This encounter marked Messi’s first face-off against his previous club, PSG, since leaving Parc des Princes in 2023. The Argentine superstar has previously voiced his grievances about his stint in France.
In a recent discussion earlier this year during an interview with Apple Music, Messi shared,
“Reflecting on my final years in Paris, although my departure from Barcelona was abrupt, the two years I spent there were not enjoyable. I struggled with my happiness daily—through training, games, and adjusting to new circumstances.”
Despite his own experiences, Messi still named PSG as his top choice.

“Without a doubt, PSG is the best team in the world. They defeated Inter in the Champions League final 4 or 5-0, I can’t recall the exact score. Today’s outcome is expected; we aren’t at the same level.”
PSG will face Bayern Munich in the Club World Cup quarterfinals on July 5.
Meanwhile, Messi and Inter Miami are preparing to return to Major League Soccer, taking on CF Montreal on June 5 at Saputo Stadium.
