Bayern Munich successfully advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup by defeating Flamengo 4-2 on Sunday.
Harry Kane played a key role in this win, netting two goals, while Leon Goretzka contributed with a goal of his own, and the fourth score came from an own goal.
Although Flamengo had their share of possession and created opportunities, Manuel Neuer was instrumental in maintaining Bayern’s lead with several crucial saves.
Notably, in the 15th minute, Neuer made a remarkable save against Luiz Araujo, who attempted a shot from close range.
Post-match, the seasoned German keeper discussed the save, attributing it to years of training and sharpening his reflexes.
“It’s instinctive. There have been similar situations, like the header against Arsenal or Ronaldo’s strike at the Allianz Arena. These moments rely on the knowledge and skills I’ve honed through routine practice. It’s vital to maintain your grip to prevent it from slipping,” Neuer explained to BILD about his impressive stop.
Neuer’s thoughts on Bayern Munich’s success
Before facing Flamengo, Bayern Munich had suffered a close loss to Benfica in the last group match.
In this game, they displayed increased intensity and scored early, helping them gain control; however, they showcased moments of defensive frailty.

“Competing against Brazilian teams is always enjoyable; they also seek possession. It’s essential to remain cautious against such teams. They pushed forward relentlessly. We aimed to stick to our style and create opportunities. Today, we displayed the decisive finishing that was somewhat absent against Benfica. That is vital for advancing,” Neuer remarked.
“We will press on and prepare for the next round against PSG. We are aware of our opponents and will analyze their play while striving to gather positive momentum.”
Neuer is widely respected at the Club World Cup for his enduring career. He was seen swapping jerseys with Flamengo’s goalkeeper, Agustin Rossi, after the match.
The 39-year-old goalkeeper must continue this level of performance as Bayern Munich prepares to face PSG on July 5 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
