Cristiano Ronaldo’s Gesture to a Young Fan
During a recent UEFA Nations League match against Poland, Cristiano Ronaldo requested that security personnel not stop a pitch invader eager to take a selfie with him.
The Al Nassr forward further solidified his legacy as the most-capped male international player and the all-time top male goal scorer, contributing to Portugal’s 3-1 win in Warsaw.
Ronaldo scored shortly after Bernardo Silva opened the scoring for Portugal in the first half. Although Piotr Zielinski briefly reignited Poland’s hopes late in the game, an own goal by Jan Bednarek ensured Portugal’s victory.
It has become a common sight for fans at Portugal games to run onto the pitch for a quick photo with Ronaldo before being escorted away. Head coach Roberto Martinez raised issues about security during Euro 2024 after multiple fans invaded the pitch at Portugal’s match against Turkey.
He noted, “While it’s great that fans admire the stars, there are risks if their intentions are not pure. Players are vulnerable, and we must prioritize their safety.” He emphasized that such incidents shouldn’t occur on the field.
Despite the concerns, Ronaldo sometimes embraces these moments. In the match against Poland, a young fan sprinted to him as he was passing the captain’s armband to Bernardo Silva upon his substitution. Ronaldo was seen signaling to the security, suggesting they allow the fan to take a picture before escorting them away.
