The Triumphs of Erik Ten Hag: A Journey Through His Career Achievements

Erik ten Hag trophies won: Career titles for Manchester United and Ajax as Old Trafford sack rumours continue image

Despite uncertainty surrounding Erik ten Hag’s position as Manchester United’s manager, he celebrated enthusiastically with fans after winning the FA Cup final on May 25.

However, his tenure has been rocky, highlighted by the club’s dismal finish in the Premier League, where they ended the 2023/24 season in eighth place and fell short in the UEFA Champions League group stage.

Amid this challenging season, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS took control of the club’s sporting operations, casting doubt on Ten Hag’s future. Nevertheless, winning the FA Cup allowed Ten Hag a chance to secure back-to-back domestic titles in his first two years—a noteworthy achievement.

Those in higher management seemed to appreciate this success. After an extensive review over three weeks, it was announced in June that Ten Hag would continue as manager, despite speculation of potential replacements being discussed.

On July 4, he signed a contract extension that will keep him with the team until at least June 2026.

I’m thrilled to continue our partnership with the club. Reflecting on the last two years, we can take pride in winning two trophies and showing progress from where we started. However, it’s essential to recognize that significant work lies ahead to meet Manchester United’s standards and aim for English and European titles. — Erik ten Hag on his contract extension.

However, Ten Hag’s chances of completing the 2024/25 season have dimmed. As the October international break approached, United languished in 14th place in the Premier League, suffering heavy defeats to Liverpool and Tottenham. They remain winless in the UEFA Europa League, with a crucial meeting among the Old Trafford leadership on October 8 expected to shape the club’s future.

In light of these difficulties, let’s assess Ten Hag’s managerial achievements and accolades.

What trophies has Ten Hag secured?

Throughout his coaching career, Erik ten Hag has amassed eight trophies.

His first trophy came in the 2018/19 KNVB Cup, where his Ajax team triumphed over Willem II with a 4-0 victory. They also claimed the Eredivisie title that same year.

While at Ajax, Ten Hag collected the Dutch Super Cup, another KNVB Cup, and two additional league titles.

In 2022, he joined Manchester United, which had been devoid of silverware for five years.

He guided United to the Carabao Cup final, breaking the five-year trophy-less streak with a 2-0 win against Newcastle at Wembley, making him the second manager in the club’s history to lead the team to a final in his first season.

Additionally, he orchestrated a 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the 2024 FA Cup, preventing the Premier League champions from achieving a “double-double.”
