On Thursday, Tottenham will face AZ Alkmaar from the Eredivisie in the Europa League, and an intriguing twist is that Troy Parrott, a former Spurs player, might be on the opposing side.
Parrott made his first appearance for Tottenham under Jose Mourinho when he was just 17 years, 10 months, and three days old.
During his five years at Spurs, he played in several matches across different competitions but started only two games in the Premier League.
Last season, while on loan at Excelsior Rotterdam, he had an impressive run, scoring 17 goals. Unfortunately, his efforts weren’t enough to prevent the club from getting relegated, but they did lead to a permanent move to AZ Alkmaar.
As he prepares to return to his previous club, he expresses gratitude for Tottenham, despite his eventual departure.
In an interview with Dutch publication De Telegraaf, he stated, “Spurs is such a large club. I was granted a few chances there, and I take pride in that.”
He continued, “They have always treated me well and aim to nurture young talents for the first team. It’s quite a challenge as they compete among the Premier League’s top five. I have nothing negative to say about the club.”
“It didn’t work out for me at Spurs, but now my own path has started,” he shared.
Regarding the upcoming match against Tottenham, Parrott acknowledges that his team is regarded as the underdogs.
“There are several world-class players in their squad, so it’s going to be tough,” he noted. “However, for my teammates and me, it’s a thrilling opportunity to showcase our abilities against such a prestigious team.”
