Xabi Alonso has made his comeback to Real Madrid, this time stepping into the role of head coach rather than sporting the iconic white kit.
Having taken over from Carlo Ancelotti, the ex-midfielder is already mapping out his vision for the team’s future, with Jude Bellingham being one of his focal points.
Since his transfer from Borussia Dortmund in 2023, Bellingham has captivated fans at the Bernabeu. His remarkable contributions in terms of goals, assists, and relentless hustle have not gone unnoticed.
However, a new managerial era often leads to adjustments in player roles, and Alonso has indicated that Bellingham might soon experience a change in position.
At his inaugural press conference as head coach, Alonso remarked, “He can excel anywhere because he’s a unique player. His emergence is akin to that of a transformative figure for Real Madrid.”
Possessing a deep understanding of midfield dynamics, Alonso aims to assist Bellingham in advancing his game — potentially by positioning the young star slightly deeper on the pitch.
Xabi Alonso plans to utilize Jude Bellingham in a modified role
In recent years, Bellingham has often featured further up the pitch, resembling a secondary forward. His scoring record of 23 goals in his debut season, followed by another 14 in the subsequent one, illustrates his striking capability.
With Kylian Mbappe having already settled in at the club, Real Madrid might not require Bellingham to play that specific role anymore.
Instead, Alonso envisions him commanding the midfield. “I regard him as a midfielder,” he stated. “Our goal will be to enhance his efficiency.”
This outlook is likely to be welcomed by Madrid supporters, who have previously witnessed greats like Modric and Kroos control the midfield. Alonso appears confident that Bellingham can become the pivotal force in the next generation of Real Madrid talent.
With Vinicius and Mbappe poised to launch attacks, and Bellingham orchestrating the play from behind, fans of Los Blancos might be in for an exciting phase ahead.
Xabi has set the scene, and it appears Jude is primed to reign in the midfield.
