After a show, Gnewzy was allegedly kidnapped, and his captors reportedly wanted a sizable ransom from his management group in order to ensure his safe release.
A heartbreaking video of Gnewzy’s mother broke down in tears and could no longer suppress her pain was posted online.
She implored her son’s kidnappers to free her lone and dear child, clenching her head with both hands in a sincere cry.
The manager of the artist, Obas9ice, who was also in the car at the time of the incident, claimed that several armed individuals wearing police uniforms harassed them on Eklat Road in the Ughelli region of Delta state.
It was said that shortly after the singer was taken away, the kidnappers emailed the record company, demanding a $200,000 ransom.
The email, which was released, read, “Hi, Dilly. You have seven days to pay $200,000 for your artist, Gnewzy, or we will send out his head. We will send you an email in five days on location for drop-off. Involve the police or mark the money, and he will be killed.”
A statement signed by Dayo Showemimo, the record label’s project coordinator, stated that they were currently working with law enforcement agents to resolve the case.
