Bode George, a notable figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has shared insights about the consequences for members involved in anti-party actions.
In a recent conversation on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, George mentioned that the PDP’s National Executive Council (NEC) is gearing up to implement decisive measures in their forthcoming meeting planned for later this month.
George expressed his discontent with the behavior of certain party members, suggesting that they are more focused on self-interest than on serving the public.
He highlighted that the NEC is ready to reinstate discipline and uphold the core principles established by the party’s founders.
He asserted, “As politicians, is personal gain their only concern? What about the community’s needs?
“What embodies democracy? It involves managing the nation’s resources for the people’s welfare. This hasn’t been their approach lately.
“I hope that during our closed-door meeting on the 27th of this month, we can confront some hard truths.
“Members who are unable to adhere to the party’s rules may be expelled.
“The NEC holds the power to enforce this. It’s crucial we address serious issues and realign with the vision laid out by our founders.”
Since the 2023 general elections, the PDP has been grappling with internal strife, which has compromised its role as Nigeria’s primary opposition.
The party has faced criticism for not taking action against members who openly support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) while still being affiliated with the PDP.
Notably, former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has recently reiterated his commitment to the PDP, despite his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign for 2027.
