This crucial high-profile meeting, featuring notable figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party leader Peter Obi, and ex-Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, descended into disorder when delegates from Jigawa State interrupted the activities.
The coalition session, held at the Abuja Continental Hotel, was briefly halted following a clash regarding who would represent Jigawa State.
Discontent emerged when former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, declared a delegate to represent the state.
In response, a group of Jigawa delegates rushed the stage, obstructing the speaker and asserting that they would not accept the individuals chosen as representatives.
As tensions heightened, security forces—including Nigerian Police, DSS agents, and private security—quickly encircled prominent attendees like Atiku and Amaechi to ensure their safety.
After several minutes of negotiation, peace was restored when Mustapha Lamido, the son of former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido, along with another delegate, was appointed to represent the state’s interests.
