Long before one traveled to the world of Legos and one became a Marvel Hero, Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd were busting audiences guts in the 2004 hit comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and its 2013 sequel. Now, the two are reuniting for the dark comedy series The Shrink Next Door, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Based on the 2019 Wondery and Bloomberg Media podcast of the same name and true events, the series follows the strange bond between celebrity psychiatrist Dr. Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf (Rudd) and his longtime patient Martin “Marty” Markowitz (Ferrell). Over time, Ike slowly begins taking over Marty’s life, even moving into his home and taking over his family business.

The series, which will also be executive produced by the stars, will be shopped to premium cable networks and streaming services by producers Media Rights Capital, and seeks to explore how a doctor-patient dynamic can transform into one full of manipulation, power grabs, and dysfunction.

Michael Showalter, who co-wrote and co-starred alongside Rudd in the Wet Hot American Summer franchise, is attached to direct and executive produce the project alongside writer Georgia Pritchett (Succession, Avenue 5). Additionally, Gloria Sanchez Productions’ Jessica Elbaum and Brittney Segal, Semi-Formal’s Jordana Mollick, Wondery’s Hernan Lopez and Marshall Lewy and Bloomberg’s Francesca Levy will all executive produce the project.RELATED: Original Ghostbusters Cast Shot Afterlife Scenes Over One WeekIn addition to starring in the MCU as Ant-Man, Rudd was recently seen on the small screen in the acclaimed Netflix sci-fi dramedy Living With Yourself, which he was nominated for a Golden Globe for portraying the lead dual role, and can next be seen in the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which is set to hit theaters on July 10.

Ferrell, known for everything from seven seasons of NBC’s Saturday Night Live to big-screen hits Elf, Step Brothers, and The Lego Movie, has spent much of his time of late executive producing various films and series, including HBO’s Succession, which is renewed for a third season, and Netflix’s Dead to Me, which is set to premiere a second season this year.
