Keri Hilson won’t be knocked down.
The R&B songstress put a troll in his place after he tried to insult her by telling her that she was a has-been. “Your career over with you ain’t have a hit in 9 years you washed up,” wrote the commenter on an Instagram post from Jan. 19.
But it was Hilson who got the last laugh, delivering an epic clapback. “Chiiile, I KNOW!” she responded. “You’re probably trying to hurt my feelings w/ that but I’ve long accepted I’m in that category…for now.”
Hilson, who is readying a new album for release this year, added: “But lemme correct you here: I haven’t ‘had a hit’ because I haven’t put out ANYTHING, not because I put out flops. And my career is far from over. I do hope you stayed tuned this year.”
It’s been over nine years since Hilson released her last album No Boys Allowed. In September, she opened up about the reason for the decade-long delay.
“My truth is, I’d love nothing more than to release this incredible music I’ve been ‘sitting on,’ and I’ve been trying for years for that to occur,” she told her Instagram followers. “There have been so many blockages I have constantly fought myself to not directly speak about…wisdom. I’ve lost some pivotal characters in the process of stepping away for my wellbeing…though I was prepared for the possibility that some wouldn’t understand or lose faith in me as an artist while I dealt w/ the trials of my life, it still hurts.”
In a 2017 interview with “The Real,” she revealed that her upcoming third album would be titled L.I.A.R., an acronym for Love Is a Religion. “There are so many similarities between religion and love,” she explained. “If we believe this will work, then we will do what it takes and we will be obedient. We’ll do what it takes to make it work. It’s religious. You gotta be that committed to making love work.”
In the meantime, she is taking life one day at a time. “I’m just honestly trying to hold it all together. One day I’m up, the next I’m down. I don’t know where life is taking me, what it’s making me, but I pray it’s something beautiful. And that’s real.”
