When Halsey revealed she was collaborating with BTS’s Suga — real name Min Yoongi — on a new song called “SUGA’s Interlude,” ARMY went into a frenzy. But little did we know, that excitement would amplify 100-fold upon the midnight release. Halsey unveiled the collab alongside “Finally // beautiful stranger” for her Maniac album. And although many listeners applauded Halsey for both tracks, BTS fans connected with the lyrics for “SUGA’s Interlude” in ways only ARMY can understand.

Midnight on Friday, Dec. 6, Halsey dropped “SUGA’s Interlude” and BTS fans rushed to every streaming service to give the tune a listen. According to Spotify, “SUGA’s Interlude” both Halsey and Suga wrote the song, alongside Peder Losnegard. Suga also produced the song with Lido and Pdogg.
The 139-second track opens to honest lyrics reflecting on achieving your dreams — and the struggles that come with it. Halsey kicks off the chorus — sung in English. Meanwhile, Suga raps his verses fully in Korean. Here are the English translations, according to a fan on Twitter.
Halsey’s chorus:
I’ve been trying all my life / To separate the time / In between the having it all / And giving it up, yeah / I wonder what’s in store / If I don’t love it anymore / Step between the having it all / And giving it up, yeah
Suga’s first verse:

BTS fans react to Halsey and Suga’s collaboration on social media
Following the release of Halsey and Suga’s collaboration, BTS fans expressed their thoughts on the song throughout social media, trending #SUGAsInterlude and #HalseyxSUGA worldwide on Twitter. And for the most part, it seems most members of ARMY were touched by the meaning behind the lyrics.
“I can’t get over how brutally and nakedly honest Yoongi’s lyrics are,” a fan wrote on Twitter. “He isn’t afraid to show his weaknesses, his vulnerabilities, his darkest and deepest thoughts. It’s like he’s sharing with us a page of his diary, a glimpse into his mind. How very, very brave.”
Meanwhile, other fans fell in love with the magic happening between Halsey’s singing and Suga’s rap.
“MIN PD!!!!!!! Halsey singing in English paired with Yoongi rapping in Korean sounds so beautiful together I’m ugly sobbing,” a fan wrote on Reddit. “This is what heaven sounds like. Yoongi’s productions are always A+++++++++++++++ so clean and smooth and so Yoongi.”
And it seems many BTS fans thought “SUGA’s Interlude” was reminiscent of Suga’s old songs, especially since the rapper used a line from “Tomorrow” in “SUGA’s Interlude.”
A fan on Twitter wrote: “i don’t know if it’s just me but after reading the translated lyrics for #SUGAsInterlude, it reads almost like a continuation or a companion piece to other songs yoongi’s produced/wrote like tomorrow, so far away, and even first love.”
Halsey on collaborating with the BTS member for ‘SUGA’s Interlude’
On Dec. 3, Halsey went on Instagram Live to discuss her new album, Maniac. And during her chat, the “Without Me” singer opened up about all the upcoming collaborations, including “SUGA’s Interlude.”
“One of them is with Suga from BTS, and he really fit the sentiment and the vibe of the album and what it’s about,” Halsey said. “So I felt like I really wanted to include him.”
She then delved deeper into why she wanted Suga to be featured on her album. “Yoongi is really introspective and really intelligent perspective on where we are and what we’re doing in our unique lifestyles.”
With the release of the “SUGA’s Interlude” collaboration, it’s clear Halsey truly understands — and embraces — Suga’s artistry. And as a result, BTS fans are responding to the new song in kind. Now, ARMY patiently waits for the two singer-songwriters to reunite at the Jingle Ball in Los Angeles on the evening of Dec. 6. Who knows? Maybe we’ll see the two perform the collab live, hours after the track’s release.
