Man in Abuja Court Refuses to Grant Wife Divorce Unless She Swears Before Village Deity of Innocence in Extramarital Affair

Sunday Enejo pleaded with a Customary Court in Jikwoyi, Abuja not to grant his wife, Rose, a divorce until she swears before ‘Aniku’ (a holistic deity) that she is not engaging in an extramarital affair. Rose, a businesswoman, had accused Enejo of being violent and beating her in her divorce petition. Enejo insisted that Rose must swear before ‘Aniku’ before he would grant her the divorce. The judge, Labaran Gusau, adjourned the matter until April 4, 2023 for a hearing.
