Alexandra “Alex” Cooper is detailing the deeply personal yet incredibly romantic way her now-fiancé, Matt Kaplan, proposed to her. In an interview with W Magazine published Monday, Cooper revealed that Kaplan had worked with her publicist to set up what she thought was going to be her accompanying photo shoot for the publication’s story.
When she arrived home that night, she found her entire house covered in candles, lit all over, music playing and a scavenger hunt leading to Matt proposing. He had placed photos or mementos that they had collected throughout their three-year-relationship in “every room” of their shared Studio City, Calif., mansion. The last clue was a glass of champagne and a card that said, “Meet me down by the Buddha.”
When she made her way down there, Cooper was greeted by their “two dogs in little bow ties.” Kaplan then got down on one knee and said, “You’re my soulmate, the love of my life. You make me a better man. Please do me the honor of marrying me,” and presented the media personality with a massive, vintage 1920s oval-cut diamond ring.
Cooper said she had relayed her message to Kaplan while on a date last November and described his reaction as “beaming.” She explained that she had previously held a negative view of marriage due to the unhealthy and unstable marriages she had seen in her life, but with Kaplan it was immediately obvious that she wanted to marry him.
The couple’s engagement was confirmed last week and they are now happily engaged. Cooper’s proposal story is a testament to the power of love and how it can bring two people together in the most unexpected ways.
