In the midst of recent reports, Sophia Momodu, the mother of Davido’s first child, Imade, refuted claims that she prevented the singer from seeing their daughter.
Davido had filed a lawsuit seeking custody of Imade, prompting a public statement from Momodu through her legal team. She elucidated that since July 2022, it has been Davido’s personal choice not to visit their daughter.
The statement emphasized that Momodu has been solely responsible for Imade over the past two years, despite Davido sharing Imade’s photos on social media to portray himself as an involved father, which according to Momodu, is not the case.
The statement asserted, “David voluntarily chose not to see their daughter since 2022. Sophia has never prevented him from seeing his daughter. For two years, he has not contacted her on important occasions like birthdays or Christmas, causing distress to their daughter. Despite this, David continues to post pictures of her on social media to create a false image of being a supportive father.
“From July 2022, David failed to meet his financial obligations towards their daughter, resulting in unpaid school fees. Despite reminders from the school for the 2021/2022 academic year and January 2023, no responses were received. Legal intervention was necessary in February 2023, leading to David’s father settling the outstanding fees. Despite this negligence, Sophia stresses that what their daughter truly needs is his presence and emotional support.”
Additionally, the statement clarified, “Sophia has never restricted David from seeing their daughter, except in matters related to intimacy, which he objected to. David is involved in a well-known relationship, and Sophia wishes him the best. She desires to move forward in her life without facing harassment or verbal mistreatment.”
