Ibrahim, a resident of Benin City, recounted how he ended up injured after responding to an invitation from the Edo State Police Command, only to leave the station hurt.
This invitation followed a viral video that captured an altercation between him and a police officer.
Ibrahim expressed his disappointment, stating that instead of receiving assistance at the police station, he was further mistreated by police personnel.
“When I arrived, I detailed what had happened, but instead of help, they dismissed me. I left the station bleeding and went home,” he recounted.
In distress, he continued, “I am now appealing to the public for support to escalate this issue. There are several problematic individuals within the Nigeria Police Force that need to be addressed. They seem to operate without consequence.”
In the viral video, the officer was also heard exclaiming: “Work, work, God go punish you. You are going to follow us to our business place. You are buying market, oh okay, let’s go.”
In response to the public outcry, the Nigeria Police Force confirmed that the involved officer has been called to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
A statement from Police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi emphasized that the officer’s actions violate Police Standard Operating Procedures, and he has received a formal reprimand.
Additionally, the police announced that disciplinary measures are being initiated against the officer involved.
