The 20-year-old Airforce Cadet, Emmanuel Onyeomereneche, tragically drowned in a hotel swimming pool in Abia State. His funeral took place on Saturday, July 6, in his hometown at Okwuta Ibeku community in Umuahia North Local Government Area, Abia State.

On April 9, 2024, the young officer met his untimely death at 6:37 pm, when he drowned in the pool. His body was recovered almost three hours later, at 9:58 pm, following a challenging rescue operation.

The incident was confirmed by the state’s Police Command, with the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, stating that an investigation is currently underway regarding the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

Not only the police but also the 14 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Ohafia, and the Navy formation in the state are informed about the incident. Calls for a thorough investigation, justice, and accountability have been made by concerned individuals.
