This summer’s movies have been serving up vintage vibes, from remakes like “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F,” to original hits like “Twisters.” This legacy-sequel directed by Lee Isaac Chung and starring Glen Powell adds to the nostalgic lineup with its enthralling summer blockbuster charm. Despite some flaws, Powell’s charismatic performance shines brightly in this follow-up to the 1996 classic, “Twister.”

The story follows Kate (played by Daisy Edgar-Jones), a scientist fascinated by twisters and their power, and Tyler (played by Glen Powell), a cowboy scientist. As they join forces with a team of tornado chasers led by Kate, the film weaves together themes of love, loss, and adventure against the backdrop of thrilling storm-chasing sequences.

The film excels in capturing the epic scale of storms and the heartland’s vastness, delivering impressive visuals and hair-raising set pieces.
