Gunmen seized two Chinese expatriates, Chen Wenguang and Liang Ding, in the Kémta/Abule-Owu area along Onigbedu Road in Ogun State. The abduction took place at approximately 1:45 pm on Sunday, August 11, 2024, while they were visiting friends after leaving the Good One Carton Company where they were associated.
A police source disclosed to Punch that Wenguang and Ding departed without informing company security, including police and military personnel, or the company itself.
“They mentioned plans to visit friends in Kémta Village, around a kilometre away from the company,” the source stated.
Confirming the incident on Monday, the state command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, revealed that the kidnappers had reached out to the company demanding a ransom for the release of the expatriates.
“The company’s security supervisor was informed by one of the expatriates about the abduction and ransom demand,” said the PPRO.
A search operation involving operatives from the Ewekoro Division, local vigilantes, military forces, local hunters, and other security units was conducted in the Kémta Village forest but did not locate the duo.
Efforts remain underway to secure the release of the abducted expatriates.
