The Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has voiced her disapproval of a video circulating on social media where a young woman exhibited her mentally challenged mother.
The minister criticized the lady for sharing this video for personal gain and social media attention.
The young lady, without revealing her identity, presented a mentally unstable woman as her mother in the video.
She explained that her mother’s mental health deteriorated following her father’s passing. Initially, her mother could care for herself and her siblings, but her condition worsened over time.
The lady disclosed that her mother left their residence and has been living on the streets. She mentioned that she occasionally visits her mother, providing food and financial assistance.
In response, the Minister condemned the video, labeling it as unacceptable, potentially harmful, and troubling.
She accused the lady of exploiting her vulnerable mother and urged the public to provide information about the woman’s welfare for necessary care and protection.
Under the title “URGENT CONDEMNATION AND CALL TO ACTION,” the Minister emphasized the need to respect individuals facing mental health challenges and take immediate action against such exploitative incidents.
