Breakdown of UEFA Champions League Prize Money for the 2024/25 Season

Participating in the UEFA Champions League can be very profitable for a football club. Elite teams in Europe consider it the top competition as good performances can lead to significant earnings, especially in the later stages of the tournament.

For the 2024/25 season, the total purse for the Champions League has been increased to €2.437 billion ($2.71bn/£2.06bn) from €2.03 billion ($2.19bn/£1.74bn) in the previous season. This increase is due to 36 teams competing in the league phase, up from the traditional 32 in the group stage.

Below is a detailed breakdown of the prize money allocations for participants in the league phase and knockout rounds of the 2024/25 Champions League.

Prize Money Distribution for the 2024/25 Champions League

Last season, the winning team, Real Madrid, had a potential maximum prize of €85.14m, achievable only if they won every match in the competition. Prize money for clubs is earned through various avenues, with a significant portion being rewarded for their performance in the tournament.

Performance-related prize money, making up 37.5% (€914m) of the total pot, has decreased from the previous season’s 55%. This change is due to the introduction of a new value pillar, which now accounts for 35%. The remaining 27.5% comprises equal shares, such as the starting fee spread among the 36 clubs in the league phase.

Teams will also receive a league ranking bonus based on their final position in the league phase, divided into equal shares depending on their rank. The distribution of the value pillar is based on individual club coefficients and broadcast market earnings.

This section amounts to €670m and ensures that each of the 36 qualifying clubs in the league phase receives an allocation, consisting of an initial payment and a balance.
