Liverpool Sets Price Higher Than Van Dijk for Premier League Defensive Target

Liverpool

Liverpool is reportedly considering a transfer for Nottingham Forest’s Murillo in 2025.

The Brazilian defender has quickly become a fan favorite since his arrival from Corinthians in 2023, helping Forest stay in the Premier League.

During his first season in the Premier League (2023/24), he made 32 appearances and played a significant role in avoiding relegation. His performance at the start of the 2024/25 season has also drawn attention.

Currently, Nuno Espirito Santo’s team is in fifth place in the Premier League, boasting the second-best defensive record in the league.

Murillo has been instrumental in the defense, with the team conceding only 10 goals in 11 matches; only Liverpool, with six, have conceded fewer this season.

According to sources from Football Insider, Liverpool is monitoring the 22-year-old as they plan for a long-term defensive overhaul.

The Reds aim to extend captain Virgil van Dijk’s contract past this season, while also negotiating renewals with Ibrahima Konate and Jarell Quansah.

Nottingham Forest is likely to reject any January bids for Murillo but might consider offers in the summer, although they plan to set a high price.

With Murillo signed until 2028, Forest may seek over £70m ($88m) for his transfer, which could surpass the current record Liverpool set when they bought Van Dijk.

Liverpool acquired the Dutch defender for £75m ($95m) from Southampton in January 2018, and Forest may raise their asking price if Liverpool makes a formal approach.
