Tragedy Strikes in Ogun: Councilorship Candidate Killed

In a shocking incident on Saturday afternoon, gunmen took the life of Adeyinka Adeleke, a candidate for the councilorship position in the Jide Jones area of Abeokuta South, Ogun State.

Adeleke was representing the All Progressives Congress for the upcoming local elections on November 16 in Ward 15.

According to reports, the attackers arrived in a tinted vehicle, firing shots indiscriminately.

Witnesses described the scene, stating that the gunmen shot Adeleke multiple times, leaving him bleeding on the ground. A video that circulated online depicted the aftermath, capturing the sorrowful reactions of those present.

An anonymous local described the chaos, indicating that the community was thrown into panic as residents fled for their safety.

“The assailants, in a tinted car, brutally killed the councilorship candidate for Ibara Ward 15, Adeyinka Adeleke today,” the source reported.

“They shot him and inflicted more harm until he lost his life. The atmosphere is tense with people rushing to find safety.”

Another witness recounted that the attackers exited their vehicle, shot Adeleke at close range, and further assaulted him to ensure he was dead.

Adeleke was previously known as a member of the transport union in the Panseke area of Abeokuta.



“The event unfolded around 2 PM and caught everyone off guard. It’s unclear whether this is related to cult activities; the local shops are closing, and fear has gripped the community,” the source added.

A senior police official confirmed the incident, noting that Adeleke’s family has taken his body for burial.

“Indeed, the event occurred, and his family opted to take the body for final rites,” the police source stated.

As of the latest updates, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, has not yet responded to requests for comments.
