As outlined in the agenda for the upcoming National Assembly session, the assembly is scheduled to elect a new President on the first day, as per constitutional guidelines, according to Nguyen Thanh Hai, head of the Deputy Affairs Committee, during a press briefing on October 20 in Hanoi.

In addition, Nguyen Thanh Hai revealed that during the recent 10th plenum, the Party Central Committee unanimously approved a candidate to be presented to the National Assembly for this presidential vote.

The assembly will also focus on other personnel-related duties that fall under its jurisdiction.

The eighth legislative session is set to commence at the National Assembly building on October 21, with an expected end date of November 30. This session will be divided into two phases: the first from October 21 to November 13, and the second from November 20 onwards.

Given the extensive agenda, the National Assembly will convene on four Saturdays, culminating in a total of about 29.5 working days.

The majority of the session will be devoted to legislative activities, oversight, and addressing socio-economic challenges, along with other significant topics.

Importantly, lawmakers are anticipated to approve 15 bills, which will include amendments to laws on notarization, trade unions, cultural heritage, geology and minerals, and human trafficking. They will also focus on legislation related to fire prevention, civil defense, value-added tax, health insurance, and revisions to various investment and planning laws.

During this session, investment policies concerning the North-South high-speed rail project will also be on the agenda for consideration and approval.
