Wolfgang Van Halen and Andraia Allsop have quite different backgrounds; he is the famous son of rock icon Eddie Van Halen and actress Valerie Bertinelli, while she works in software engineering and does photography on the side. Their connection started on Instagram, where they quickly moved from messaging each other to texting. Wolfgang reminisced about sending his first message to her while on tour in Denver in 2015, feeling an immediate spark.
As for their first date, Wolfgang described it as enchanting, particularly because of the numerous shooting stars that illuminated the sky. He felt he had found his true love at that moment, admitting it felt like love at first sight. After eight years together, the couple became engaged and got married in October 2023, although their story also includes a few unexpected aspects.
They waited seven years to say ‘I do’
Your engagement announcement came after nearly seven years of dating. Wolfgang shared the exciting news on Instagram in July 2022, featuring a lovely photo of Andraia’s engagement ring and joyfully declaring, “She said yes!!” His mother celebrated the moment with heartfelt congratulations filled with emojis. They eventually wedded a year later in a simple ceremony at their Los Angeles home, surrounded by close family and friends.
Although many might think it unusual to wait so long to marry, Wolfgang and Andraia viewed marriage as a mere formality. Wolfgang explained that they were already living a married life and saw no need for drastic changes after the ceremony. Andraia echoed this sentiment, noting that the primary change would simply be her last name.
Their wedding was more a family gathering than a grand celebration
For their wedding, Wolfgang and Andraia chose to keep things intimate with around 90 guests attending. Their focus was on gathering close family and friends for a heartfelt celebration, especially after facing personal challenges in recent years. Andraia shared her desire for the wedding to be a joyous occasion for their loved ones as well.
Having experienced the loss of Wolfgang’s father, Eddie, in 2020, the couple opted for a private ceremony at home rather than a lavish event. Wolfgang’s mother, along with a family friend who officiated the ceremony, ensured it was a cozy environment filled with love. He emphasized that simplicity was key, wanting to share their love in the comfort of their home, surrounded by people they cherish, which he likened to “drinking water for the soul”.
