The Nigeria Association of Social Workers (NASoW) has pledged to provide crucial psychosocial assistance to those affected by the tragic stampede in Ibadan, Oyo State.
This commitment was outlined in a statement released on Saturday.
It was reported that at least 35 children lost their lives during a stampede that took place at a children’s carnival hosted at Islamic High School, Bashorun Ibadan.
Mr. Adegoke Ayodele, the Chairman of NASoW in Oyo State, announced the association’s readiness to deliver the necessary support to the victims and their families.
He expressed his condolences to the grieving families and offered sympathies to those injured in this unfortunate event.
Ayodele also recognized the actions taken by the state government and law enforcement officials.
In his comments, he emphasized that one of the primary responsibilities of social workers is to assist individuals affected by disasters and tragedies.
He urged the state government to collaborate with NASoW on initiatives aimed at supporting those who have lost loved ones.
“The Nigeria Association of Social Workers (NASoW) was deeply saddened by the incident that transpired in Ibadan on Wednesday,” he stated.
“We extend our condolences to the families of the innocent children who tragically lost their lives.”
“We also empathize with the families of those who were injured. As social workers, providing psychosocial support in such tragic circumstances is a key function of our role, and we are committed to offering our services.”
“We are prepared to deliver professional support to the victims and their families. We urge the state government and relevant stakeholders to include social workers in efforts to aid the injured and bereaved.”

“Consequently, we call upon law enforcement to conduct a thorough investigation to determine both the immediate and underlying causes of this tragedy to prevent future occurrences.”
