Panic as Cultists Attack Bayelsa Community
A violent incident involving cultists resulted in the deaths of at least three individuals in the Igbogene community, located in Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State. This event took place on Wednesday night, January 8, 2025, when approximately ten armed gang members stormed the area around 8 PM, leading to chaos as residents fled for safety.
Recently, the state government had moved interstate motor parks to this community, raising suspicions that the cult conflict might be related to the control of the transport terminal.
According to local residents, the first victim was the son of the former leader of the community’s vigilante group, known as “Money Sweet,” who was shot near his home. The second victim was targeted after refusing to reveal his brother’s location.
Community reports suggest that the violence stemmed from ongoing rivalry between two local cult factions. While police reported three fatalities, residents contested this, claiming only two died and one person is hospitalized with a gunshot injury.
Ezekiel Igbenivie, the Youth President of the Igbogene Community, confirmed the incident, noting that the assailants have fled the area. He clarified that one of the injured is currently receiving medical care at an undisclosed location in Yenagoa.
ASP Musa Mohammed, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, identified the deceased as Donaldson Mison (28), Addy Mulan (27), and Greenboy Dudella (29). He assured that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the culprits involved in this clash.
