Tragic Incident: Ogun Barber Loses Life to Suspected Cult Violence

The spokesperson for the police, Omolola Odutola, shared details of the violent incident with Punch on Thursday, January 9, outlining the discovery of the victim’s body inside his workshop, bearing a gunshot wound to the left chest and severe injuries to his left wrist.

A barber, Toheeb Folarin, aged 30, was brutally murdered by suspected cultists in Obantoko, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The attack occurred around 10 PM on Tuesday when the assailants entered his barbershop.

Odutola confirmed that Folarin was discovered in his workshop with a gunshot wound and his severed wrist, lying lifeless in a pool of blood.

This shocking crime has heightened tensions in the surrounding community, prompting law enforcement to step in to regain calm.

The Public Relations Officer remarked that tranquility has been restored, and the investigation into the murder is currently in progress.

“The incident took place on January 7, 2025, at roughly 10:10 PM. The police were alerted by community members, including Jimoh Afolabi, a local leader, and Omotosho Basiru, a relative of the victim,”
she reported.

“Following the report, a team of detectives led by Divisional Police Officer CSP Akindipe Michael, along with a joint patrol from the Adatan Area Command and the Anti-Cultism Unit, promptly arrived at the scene.”

She mentioned that when police attempted to transport the body to the morgue, they faced resistance from around 300 angry youths who demanded to perform Islamic burial rites the following day.

Odutola also indicated that the victim’s family had submitted a request to withdraw from ongoing police inquiries, with a commitment to back their decision with a formal affidavit.

She emphasized the commitment of the police to track down those responsible for this horrific act, encouraging locals to share any information that could aid in the capture of the suspects.
