Popcorn at the ready, it’s time to get excited for Sony Pictures’ upcoming comedy, “My Ex-Friend’s Wedding.” Written by Taylor Jenkins Reid, the author of beloved works such as “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” and “Daisy Jones & the Six,” the movie follows four childhood friends played by Ariana DeBose, Chloe Fineman from “Saturday Night Live,” Amanda Seyfried, and comedian Megan Stalter.
The story begins when a former friend calls the group the day before her wedding, saying she might be making a mistake. In an effort to stop the nuptials and restore their friendship, the four embark on a wild adventure. Kay Cannon, known for her work on “Blockers,” “Cinderella,” and “Pitch Perfect,” will be directing the film.
DeBose shared her enthusiasm for the project on Instagram, writing, “When @kaycannon calls, you say ‘YES!’ Looking forward to this one with these Queens.” Stalter also expressed her joy for the cast on social media, simply saying, “I luv girls.”
Joe Matukewicz, Sony Pictures head of worldwide acquisitions, promised that great things are in store. “We spit out our tea at the hilarious and heartfelt script for ‘My Ex-Friend’s Wedding’ and Kay’s vision for it had us wanting to pick up the phone to call all our ex-friends,” he said. Filming is set to begin in 2023, so keep an eye out for more updates on this star-studded cast.
